"Countries of the Mayan Civilization"

This three-day workshop is for high school students to learn about the history, customs, economic, and political issues of a selected region of the world. Students participate in small group discussions and experience hands-on activities. In addition, guest speakers share their stories about life in different countries.

The workshop is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students should be in good academic standing and have a genuine interest in learning about different regions of the world.

Local Rotary clubs provide scholarships which cover the costs of attending the workshop. Contact your local Rotary for more information.

Program Highlights

Join students from all over the world for this three-day event as they explore and learn about the history and current challenges in the region of the Mayan Civilization.

In collaboration with students and staff from Defiance College, the workshop provides a highly interactive environment in which high school and college students can share in research on first-hand experiences in the region of study.

The Grand Banquet on Thursday features Central American cuisine. The key note speaker will discuss current social and political issues in the region.

Thursday and Friday evenings will provide opportunities for dancing, games and other fun activities.

The workshop begins with check-in at Noon on Thursday and runs through Noon on Saturday.

Registration Details

Registration includes lodging, all meals, the Grand Banquet, participant materials and a WCW T-shirt.

Registration is $200 before April 10, 2010 After April 10, registration is $225.
